PHUMC Stephen Ministry celebrates 10 years

PALM HARBOR UNITED METHODIST CHURCH CELEBRATES 10 YEARS OF STEPHEN MINISTRY

PHUMC is celebrating its 10th anniversary as a Stephen Ministry congregation. Stephen Ministry has become an integral part of caring for our congregation and community. Since 2007, our Stephen Ministers have provided one-to-one Christian care to individuals experiencing life’s challenges such as the loss of a loved one, divorce, a terminal illness, loneliness, unemployment, hospitalization, a spiritual crisis or the birth of a child.

Each Stephen Minister receives 50 hours of training in Christian caregiving. In the 10 years of Stephen Ministry at PHUMC, Stephen Ministers have provided hundreds of hours of high-quality care to individuals in need. PHUMC has training over 70 Stephen Ministers over that time span, 42 of which are currently active.

Stephen Ministry training equips people to provide loving care and support to those in need, but the skills that are developed help in all aspects of life: family, church leadership, Bible Studies, etc. Many of our Stephen Ministers have served or are currently serving in church leadership. This has made our congregation a much more caring community.

We will begin a new Stephen Ministry class in September. We are looking for people with a passion for caring for others to join our team. The criteria to become a Stephen Minister includes:

 - A minimum term of membership (2 years or 1 year membership and service). It is important that lay caregivers have a deep connection to the church

- Regular worship attendance

-Active pursuit of growth in the Christian life through participation in a small group or some other form of Christian discipleship

-Regular service to God with their time in ministry of the church

            - Spiritual Gifts Assessment – https://gifts.churchgrowth.org/cgi-cg/gifts.cgi?id=501598

Applications are available on the Stephen Ministry bulletin board. All applicants will be interviewed as part of the application process.
