As part of the Body of Christ here at PHUMC, our members are very dear to us. When one member of the body suffers, the whole body suffers. When one member of the body rejoices, the whole body rejoices (1 Corinthians 12:26) . The mission of PHUMC Congregational Care is to walk with the members of the congregation through life’s journey, offering love, support, encouragement, and hope. In order to provide this care, we have a number of ministries to reach out to our community.

We cannot help those in need without those willing to give. We need volunteers with a compassionate heart and are willing to give of yourself in one of our caring ministries.

Please call Marilyn King, Congregational Care Coordinator, at 727-785-7487 or email her at ,  to let us know if you or someone you know has a need.

Stephen Ministry “Plus”

Stephen Ministers offer one-on-one care during a crisis.

This amazing group is made up of Stephen Ministers who have been highly trained in the art of care giving. Their role is to listen and care – not give advice or counsel. They are also trained to provide follow up care with members after hospital stays or surgery, a death in the family, the birth of a child, or any other pastoral care need. Trust is essential in a caring relationship, and Stephen Ministers are people you can trust. Confidentiality is one of the most important principles of Stephen Ministry.

If you are in need of pastoral care, please contact Marilyn King at 727-785-7487.

Care Volunteers

We have a dedicated team of volunteers ready to help out our members by providing meals after a hospitalization, illness, or death in the family.

Volunteers are also available to provide rides to doctor's appointments or needed errands (banking, groceries, etc.).

Please contact Marilyn King, at 727-785-7487, or email her at  if you have a need or would like to become a Care Volunteer.

Faith Community Nursing

parishnurse.jpgOur Faith Community Nurses, in collaboration with the pastoral staff and congregants, participate in the ongoing transformation of the faith community into a source of health and healing. Through partnership with other community health resources, Faith Community Nursing fosters new and creative responses to health and wellness concerns.

Faith Community Nurse Ministry offers blood pressure readings the third Sunday of the month after the first and second services.

The Faith Community Nurse understands health to be a dynamic process, which embodies the spiritual, psychological, physical, and social dimensions of the person. Spiritual health is central to well being and influences a person's entire being. A sense of well being can exist in the presence of disease, and healing can exist in absence of cure.

A quarterly health and wellness newsletter will be available here. Make sure to watch as we update the newsletter for you.

Counseling Ministry

Palm Harbor United Methodist Church has two licensed therapists on staff:

  • Rev. Cathy Hart is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
  • Amanda Hawkins is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor.

Counseling is available for individuals, couples, or families who are in need of a higher level of care. Both counselors have experience with many counseling issues: depression, anxiety, marital issues, parenting, grief and bereavement, and co-dependency. Amanda has experience working with children as well. They are both active members of the Network Institute of Christian Counselors.

To make an appointment, please contact Rev. Cathy Hart at 727-785-7487 x2578 or Amanda Hawkins at 727-743-4105.

Support Groups

We offer support groups for the needs of our church family. Groups are subject to change as needs change. Currently, we offer two groups:

Courageous Sisters is a support group for women who are battling cancer or are cancer survivors. Contact Yvonne White @ 727-785-4827.

Caregivers Support Group meets the needs of those who are in caregiving roles for a loved one. Contact Carol Pollard @ 727-937-6943.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

prayer shawl ministryOur prayer shawl ministry provides prayer shawls for those who are going through a difficult time in their life. It is a warm, loving reminder of God's love.

This ministry is very active, meeting twice a month (the 2nd and 4th Sundays at 1 p.m. in the Narthex). They provid knitt caps to All Children's Hospital for children undergoing cancer treatments; enclose them in the Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes; knitted baby blankets, booties and caps to The Pregnancy Center; and provide pocket prayer squares for those in hospitals, and to anyone who visits our chapel and needs one.

Did you know, prayer shawls and squares are given to anyone that is going through a severe trial in their life? The entire time the prayer shawl is being made, it is being prayed over. That way, when you receive one you know you are covered in prayers.

Please contact Martha Stoltz at  or Marilyn King at or you can call the church office at 727-785-7487 if you, or someone you know, is going through a difficult time.
